Building infrastructure for AI agents that can be observed, evaluated, and improved

Visit Histeeria↗

Executive Summary

AI agents are moving beyond conversation. They browse the web, call APIs, execute code, modify records, interact with customers, and make decisions on behalf of users. As that autonomy increases, conventional application observability becomes insufficient. Histeeria was built around a deeper question: how do you understand whether an agent made a good decision, what influenced that decision, how it behaved over time, and whether it is actually improving? We designed the engineering foundation behind that system — from the backend and agent model to developer SDKs, decision ingestion, evaluation, and persistent behavioral context.

The Challenge

The central challenge was not simply collecting logs. Traditional observability tells engineers that a request happened, which services were called, and how long an operation took. It does not naturally represent an AI agent's judgment. Histeeria needed to introduce a layer around agent behavior without becoming a critical dependency inside the agent's execution path. The platform needed to capture structured decisions, associate them with agents and sessions, preserve contextual information, and make those decisions available for evaluation and historical analysis. At the same time, the system had to remain model-agnostic and integrate with existing AI applications without requiring teams to rebuild their architecture around Histeeria.

The Approach

We designed Histeeria around asynchronous decision ingestion. The application continues its normal execution while the SDK captures relevant decision information and sends it into the infrastructure layer for processing, evaluation, and persistence. This separation prevents the observability system from becoming another synchronous dependency that can interrupt an agent's primary workflow. The backend models agents, sessions, decisions, evaluations, API credentials, and contextual metadata as first-class infrastructure concepts. We also developed Python and TypeScript SDKs so developers can instrument existing agent applications with minimal architectural changes. This created a foundation where observation, evaluation, and long-term behavioral analysis can evolve independently from the agent itself. The architecture also provides a natural path toward longitudinal agent profiles, richer judgment evaluation, and memory systems that can retain and retrieve an agent's accumulated experience.

The Impact

The result is an infrastructure layer designed specifically around agent behavior rather than conventional request-response telemetry. Developers can integrate Histeeria into existing AI applications, capture decisions as structured events, evaluate those decisions independently, and build a historical picture of how an agent behaves. More importantly, the architecture does not lock the platform to a particular model provider or agent framework. That separation gives the system room to evolve as agent architectures change. Histeeria ultimately became an exploration of a broader infrastructure problem: intelligent systems need more than execution infrastructure. They need systems that can observe behavior, evaluate judgment, retain experience, and eventually use that experience to improve future behavior.
